The Asccoiate Product Developer’s responsibility starts with the creation of new products and wraps up just prior to mass production when giving final approval on all seasonal products. This position is embedded within the Product Creation Team and works closely and is managed by the Product Development Category Manager. Working directly with the Designers and the Product Managers, the Associate Product Developer collaborates with the senior developers to ensure products are built technically correct and foot fitting results are within established standards.This is a full-time, exempt position. The position will be required to work a hybrid schedule meaning 3 days in-office and the remaining workdays remotely.In the Product Team dynamic, the Designers are responsible for the aesthetics of the product, and the Product Developers are responsible for the foundations, cost, integrity, and fitting of the products. The Product Developers holds the final call on model fitting and product integrity before approval for products to be mass produced.Responsibilities include:

  • Create product specifications (BOM’s) from Designer created tech packs
  • Strong understanding of seasonal calendars
  • Work with Materials team to monitor testing of new materials and usage recommendations / approvals
  • Review product costing at each sample round and proactively value engineer to desired cost
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with Reef’s Asia based counterparts
  • Intermediate level of understanding of blueprints used to create new molds and toolings
  • Intermediate level of understanding of footwear patterns and making pattern corrections
  • Review samples at each sample round and work with product team to execute necessary corrections / updates
  • Collaborate with the Commercialization Engineers during the commercialization process
  • Work in PLM system to enter and validate product information


Requirements include:

  • 2-4 years of footwear product development experience
  • BA or relevant experience
  • Creative problem solver able to identify issues and resolve them
  • Highly organized
  • Clear understanding of shoe lasts
  • Clear understanding of component and tooling blueprints
  • Clear understanding of pattern making
  • Clear understanding of foot anatomy in relationship to shoemaking and ensuring proper fit
  • Strong follow-through and communication skills – both oral and written
  • Proficient with Mac operating systems and software, including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Team Player as well as self-motivated
  • Experience with footwear factories and material suppliers
  • Must be able to carry, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the associate is subject to an office environment and must adhere to the rules and safety regulations of the facility.


The salary range for this position is $70,000 – 80,000. The final offer amount will be determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and impacted area, and may vary from the amount above. This range also does not represent additional compensation benefits.
