Financial Controller - Nixon's Carlsbad Headquarters and Subsidiaries

Location: Carlsbad, California, USA

Job Description:

Nixon, a leading global lifestyle brand specializing in premium watches, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to oversee all accounting functions at our Carlsbad headquarters, as well as coordinate with our European and Australian subsidiaries. This pivotal role will be part of Nixon's senior management team and will require a strategic thinker with extensive financial expertise and a proven track record in managing diverse accounting operations within a multinational organization.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management:

- Develop and execute financial strategies to optimize profitability and ensure sustainable growth across all regions.

- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes for the headquarters and subsidiaries.

- Monitor financial performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights to senior management.

- Implement robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

2. Accounting Operations:

- Direct and supervise the accounting team in Carlsbad, and coordinate with accounting teams in Europe and Australia, to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness in financial reporting.

- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, consolidations and variance analysis.

- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and adjustments to ensure compliance with GAAP and IFRS standards.

- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate annual audits and address audit findings in a timely manner.

3. Tax and Compliance:

- Ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations in the United States, Europe, and Australia, including VAT/GST filings, corporate income tax, and transfer pricing.

- Collaborate with tax advisors to optimize tax planning strategies and minimize tax liabilities while maintaining compliance.

- Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards, tax legislation, and regulatory requirements impacting the business.

4. Treasury and Cash Management:

- Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning to support operational needs and strategic initiatives.

- Monitor foreign exchange exposure and implement hedging strategies to mitigate currency risk.

- Oversee banking relationships, including negotiations of credit facilities and optimization of banking services.

5. Stakeholder Communication:

- Communicate financial performance, forecasts, and strategic initiatives to senior management and other key stakeholders.

- Act as a liaison between the finance team and other departments to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and decision-making.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.

- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, including at least 5 years in a managerial capacity.

- Prior experience in a multinational company with exposure to international accounting standards and practices.

- Strong technical proficiency in financial reporting, consolidation, and analysis.

- Experience with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Business Central, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse teams.

- Proven track record of driving process improvements, implementing internal controls, and managing complex financial projects.

- Experience in the branded consumer goods industry, preferably in fashion/apparel is desirable.
