Associate Buyer - Kids

Success in this role will entail a high level of detail, ability to work well with others and ability to drive results that meet or exceed both financial and qualitative goals for the fiscal period, support administrative needs of the business group. Assume full responsibility for a classification or classifications as assigned by the Buyer. Take data flow information and independently make recommendations on how to drive the business, take initiative to understand variance to plan and prior year, build partnerships that allow for open and timely communication and have confidence to speak in open forums and provide value added comments.


The essential responsibilities for this position (i.e. those things that will keep you busy every day) include: managing the receipt flow; driving sales and margins through vendor communication, internal design and product development, presenting new strategies and opportunities for sales and profits for their classification; purchase order maintenance; participate in vendors appointments; forge strong relationships with the product development and purchasing departments; vendor communication; maintain the P.O. system and manage orders and deliveries; prepare for meetings and projects with business analysts; executing buys; and business meeting preparation.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) and/or equivalent work experience required
  • 3+ years of buying experience in a retail environment
  • Pro-active in every aspect of work (i.e. forward thinking, ability to anticipate, driven to get tasks accomplished)
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong understanding of sales relative to inventory
  • Passionate about analyzing information and identifying risks
  • Retail experience will help in the success of this individual
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate ideas, issues, opportunities, etc.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; as well as reach with hands and arms
  • The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in open environment with fluctuating temperatures and standard lighting.
  • Ability to work on computer and mobile phone for multiple hours; with frequent interruptions.
  • Required to travel in elevator or stairwells to attend meetings and engage with associates on multiple floors throughout building.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. As a National Retailer, occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during periods of high volume. This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
