Description

The Store Manager is responsible for achieving business results, Brand Standard, talent acquisition and staff development.  Ensures the entire staff is providing the highest level of service and upholding all company programs.  Works closely with District Manager and corporate offices to ensure all aspects of store operations, 

Customer service, sales and human resources are maintained and enforced.   

RESPONSIBILITIES:

LEADERSHIP

  • Creates and takes accountability for a consistent positive work environment that increases productivity, decreases unwanted turnover and enhances the customer experience
  • Manage and supervise staff of Sales Associates, Assistant Managers, and Supervisors.
  • Provides and open door policy where employees are free to express their concerns and feelings without fear of retaliation or ill will
  • Communicates Gold Star performance goals and Brand Standards and hold all subordinate employees to the standard.
  • Exemplifies Company values and behaviors consistently
  • Ensures that personal appearance reflects the Action Board sport lifestyle and attitude of all company brands
  • Seeks and acts on written and verbal feedback; seeks out and learns new skills
  • Maintains a healthy balance between work and personal life

COMMUNICATION:

  • Maintains excellent and timely verbal and written communication with corporate office and District Manager via district meetings, one on ones, voicemail, corporate visits, etc.
  • Maintains open and positive relations with staff, peers, corporate office staff and District Manager

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Recruits, interviews and selects the best candidates for job openings who reflect company brand standard
  • Coaches and develops employees for current and future responsibilities
  • Creates a learning environment in the store; implements company training programs including but not limited to, Gold Star selling Skills, product information, store operations, MOD and 5 minute meetings; ensures the store management team is committed to the MTP program and other Company training/development programs.
  • Allocates time for employee development depending on individual needs
  • Retains the right employees in the right jobs and removes employees who do not meet expectations in partnership with the District Manager
  • Prepares and administers Sales Associate and Management performance reviews in a timely manner
  • Administers employee discipline in a fair and consistent manner
  • Ensures that the store is in compliance with all employment, State and Federal Laws, including but not limited to wage and hour, human rights and equal employment opportunities

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Ensures store exceeds customer expectations through the execution of the Gold Star Selling Program.
  • Improves customer experience in store through the use of the Non-negotiable standards, recognizing customer service successes, coaching to improve performance and empowering staff to appropriately use their best judgment in all customer service matters
  • Is personally available to all customers to communicate and identify their needs and address their questions and concerns.
  • Ensures Sales Associates and management staff are friendly, knowledgeable about our products, and represents the company brand standard

GOLD STAR PROGRAM

  • Required to complete Gold Star Selling Program Training
  • Required to meet weekly sales goals on a consistent basis
  • Required to complete daily, weekly and quarterly Gold Star forms
  • Provides training and support to staff, communicates goals and expectations

OPERATIONS

  • Ensures proper execution of visual presentation standards and promotional event set ups
  • Ensures store is clean, organized and operational
  • Complies with and ensures staff follows all daily, monthly, quarterly and year end filing requirements
  • Adheres to and ensures all employees are working safely and following established safety best practices

MERCHANDISE

  • Provides customer and merchandise feedback as needed or as requested
  • Provides input and influence to convey product ideas from customer to District Manager

FINANCIAL

  • Efficiently plans tasks and manages execution to achieve financial goals/results within budget and on time by setting daily goals, analyzing monthly plans and managing labor hours
  • Develops plans for accomplishing objectives and monitors progress
  • Ensures that all necessary store supplies are available as needed

LOSS PREVENTION

  • Ensures that the store protects company assets through promoting awareness of LP best practices including but not limited to employee bag checks, shoplifting controls (internal and external), perpetual counts, zone coverage and silent witness hotline.
  • Reports suspected or known theft to supervisor, Loss Prevention Manager, or Silent Witness Hotline
  • Maintains acceptable inventory shrinkage, not exceeding established goals
  • Maintains the store security systems including security cameras, inventory control tags, and burglar alarms
  • Complies with and ensures management staff follows daily cash handling and banking procedures
  • Ensures that all policies are followed to specific inventory control, including managing required annual physical inventories, paperwork flow, over/short logs, markdowns, timeliness of reporting, receipt of goods, merchandise transfers and all other related inventory matters

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years previous retail or customer service oriented experience with 1 year as a Store Manager or equivalent OR bachelor’s degree with 1 year as a Store Manager or equivalent
  • Ability to achieve sales targets and drive a sales culture
  • Ability to lead and develop a team to exceed expectations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills appropriate to deal with a range of team members and customers
  • Ability to engage with youth
  • Highly organized
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent time and personal management skills in a dynamic work environment
  • Basic computer skills –Word, Excel, Key Note and Photoshop

About Billabong

Billabong was founded in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia in 1973 by Gordon Merchant. At first, he designed and created the board shorts at his home and then sold them to local surf shops. Surfers soon realized the durability of Merchant's board shorts that was the result of his triple-stitching technique. Merchant understood that his company needed to expand to achieve success, so Billabong started to sponsor contests—these contests increased the public's awareness of Merchant's products and the company consequently expanded. By the 1980s, Billabong board shorts were present throughout Australia.
