Are you a leader in sourcing and development that is a guru about fabric?

The Director of Fabric R&D is responsible for leading the innovation of materials and techniques that align with the company’s strategic direction and drive growth. The Director of Fabric R&D will be able to think big picture while also rolling up their sleeves to connect sourcing with supply chain and get very detailed at the fabric level. Additionally, this individual is responsible for managing costs and improving quality, sustainability, speed-to-market, and service.

Essential Functions:

• Develop new fabrics and techniques that support brand evolution, as a leading lifestyle brand with premium and innovative fabrications
• Qualify potential suppliers that support brand innovation company / management initiatives
• Develop and sustain factory / vendor relationships 
• Develop a contact list of new high capacity factories 
• Travel to overseas factories to identify new potential development capabilities and limitations 
• Initiate, develop and implement new category development, process improvements and cost saving projects with new and historical vendor base
• Facilitate the testing of new techniques and factories and ensure adherence to company standards
• Manage and mentor a team of Sourcing Specialists / Assistants

Qualifications:

• 8-10 years’ experience in a management and research and development capacity
• Experience in woven tops, outerwear and accessories
• Highly proficient in technical requirements related to testing of fabric, trims, and garments
• Highly proficient in International Trade Law and US Apparel and Customs regulations
• Asia Sourcing Office experience desired 
• Strong understanding of import/export requirements by country
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Self-motivated, creative problem solver with a strong sense of urgency
• Ability to embrace and lead change
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
