Job Responsibilities 

  • Create Footwear designs and technical specification packages for basketball footwear that help lead the direction for PUMA?s basketball footwear design. 
  • Consistently deliver innovative and fresh design solutions to meet the briefed requirements.
  • Create and drive basketball category initiatives based on consumer, marketing, and product innovation insight combined with original design and performance technology applications.
  • Build a consumer and retail-centric seasonal product line.
  • Innovate new footwear technologies and disruptive aesthetics.
  • Demonstrate high level of understanding of brand directives and the PUMA consumer.
  • Support and contribute to strategic brand and technology direction through product design.
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of the strategic direction of PUMA?s basketball business plans.
  • Travel to domestic and international markets to continuously develop industry, consumer and retail knowledge.
  • Travel to Asia to manage the footwear development process with our factory partners. 
  • Mentor and inspire Designers on the team; work closely within the PUMA matrix to bring product to life and contribute to a new and exciting category of PUMA.  


  • 5-8 years of experience in footwear design or related design experience.
  • At least 2 years of basketball footwear design experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball consumer and trends.
  • Experience working with external collaborators and/or brand ambassadors preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of domestic and international retail, consumer trend, and product line dynamics.
  • Experience in international product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Exceptional and refined level of form, color and material understanding.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Illustrator & PhotoShop. 
  • Strong command of color and understanding of merchandising/line planning.
  • Exceptional sketching skills. 
  • Experience presenting to retail buyers/accounts a plus.
  • International and domestic travel required. (~ 20% yearly)
